Marta Milo

Director of Computation Biology and AI – Oncology Data Science and AI @ ASTRAZENECA

Marta is an accomplished interdisciplinary scientist with expertise in combining computational science, Machine learning and AI. Her research interests include the interplay of the immune system and cancer cell biology, omics of stem cells and neurodegenerative diseases, single-cell omics, and probabilistic models for multi-omics data analysis and integration of Foundation Models with single-cell. She has developed leadership and mentoring skills at AstraZeneca and led the delivery of the first in vitro platform for pharmacology and the development of new models and pipeline for ex vivo tumor platforms. She is leading a Translational AI team developing prototypes of predictive models using Foundation models and baseline blood.

Marta holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Naples “Federico II”, a PhD in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from the same university, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching from The University of Sheffield.  Her interdisciplinarity was developed with training in Biomedical Science at Sheffield University via an Advanced Research Training Fellowship with The Wellcome Trust. Her professional experience includes roles as a Business Lead and Research Data Science Lead at AstraZeneca, Lecturer at the University of Sheffield, and Bioinformatics Research Fellow at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. She is currently Director of Computational Biology in Early Oncology division at AstraZeneca.

Her technical skills encompass advanced experimental techniques, extensive computing abilities, and Ai techniques. She has excellent communication and organizational capabilities. Marta is proficient in English, Spanish, and her native Italian, and she has a passion for art, painting, Argentine Tango, and writing. She holds several publications in high impact journals.
