As a leader at the intersection of engineering and the life sciences, Riccardo brings extensive technical and biological expertise to his work in vaccine research. Since joining GSK (formerly Chiron and Novartis) in 1998, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Vaccine Research Bioinformatics group and designing the HPC infrastructure essential for Reverse Vaccinology. His work was instrumental in supporting the genomic approach to antigen identification and selection, including the development of the Neisseria meningitidis B vaccine, Bexsero®.
Throughout his tenure at GSK R&D, Riccardo has led global teams to integrate Data Science and Digital Innovation into vaccine research. Currently, he leads capability building and data literacy initiatives for the Discovery Data Science team, where he focuses on enhancing data infrastructure and governance to ensure the value-driven adoption of AI and Deep Learning models across the vaccine research organization.
